BADIN, Oct 4: Senior leaders of the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) said on Friday that the party enjoys massive public support and will return to power after the election on October 10.

They were addressing a public gathering on Thursday night here at the Station Ground.

The party’s central and provincial leaders, including Makhdoom Amin Faheem, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Qazi Asad Abid and Shah Mohammad Shah, were scheduled to address the election meeting at 5pm but reached the venue of the meeting about 7 hours late, at 12 midnight.

The party leaders moved a resolution about the safe return of Benazir Bhutto to the country, which was unanimously supported by the 5,000-strong audience.

Makhdoom Amin Fahim said that conspiracies had been hatched to oust Benazir from the election process because the government feared her ability to mobilise public support.

He promised the public that he will bring Benazir back to rule the country for a third tenure.

The PPP’s provincial president, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, said that the rulers had been unable to crush the popular support for the PPP, adding that Benazir would once again serve the masses.

Without naming Qazi Amjad, the brother of the PPP candidate for NA-225, Dr Fehmida Mirza, Khuhro said that any person posing himself to be a party worker, but contesting against any PPP nominee was deceiving the party.
