Sudan govt, rebels agree to truce

NAIROBI, Oct 4: The Sudanese government and southern rebels have agreed to halt a war that started in 1983 and to resume talks aimed at ending it for good, mediators said in Nairobi on Friday.

“After consultations with the government of Sudan and the (rebel) Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A), both parties have agreed to resume negotiations starting on October 14,” read a statement released by IGAD, a grouping of regional states mediating in Sudan’s peace process.—AFP
