PML-Q activists booked for firing at PPP supporters

ISLAMABAD, Oct 3: Four supporters of the PML-Q have been booked by the Bara Kahu police on the district returning officer’s direction for opening fire on PPP activists.
The incident took place in Phul Garan village, some 15kms east of the capital, where the accused Mohammad Nazuk, Mohammad Riaz, Kabir and Shahid opened fire on a group of PPP supporters. However, no one was injured in the incident.
Mohammad Hanif, the father of the PPP supporter Mohammad Nasir, claimed that when he went to the police station to lodge a complaint, he was not entertained.
He then met the district and sessions judge, Sheikh Ahmed Farooq, who is also the returning officer. Sheikh Ahmed Farooq took strong exception to the incident and directed the district police officer to immediately register a case. The police then booked the four accused under section 188 of the PPC.
Meanwhile, a PPP spokesman expressed his resentment over the incident.
He said the police should register a case of attempted murder against the four persons and arrest them forthwith.
The mere registration of a case under section 188 of the PPC “is commensurate with encouraging the hooligans”.
The incident, he said, clearly indicated that the local administration was siding with the “king’s party, because if any one of our men had done such a thing, he would have been arrested alongwith his family and badly tortured”.
