KARACHI, Oct 3: Reckless driving claimed four lives in the city on Thursday.
A contract carriage (RIO-4064) strayed on to the pavement near Kala Board in Malir, killing two persons, who were asleep, and injuring three others.
Police said that those who died in the accident were beggars. They had been identified as Afzal Masih, aged 27, and Shah Rozi. They died on the spot.
Police said that three persons standing at the bus stop were also injured in the accident. They had been identified as Fazal Rahman, Mohammed Fayyaz and Waziran. They had been admitted to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre.
Initial reports said that the tie-rod of the bus had broken causing it to run on to the pavement, police said.
The bus driver escaped. Police impounded the vehicle.
A woman was knocked down by a motorcyclist at the Gulshan Chowrangi at noon.
Edhi sources said that Sarwat Yasin, aged 35, was run over by an unidentified motorcycle while walking across the road.
Police said that the woman was returning home after collecting her children from school when the accident took place. She suffered head injuries. She was rushed to a nearby private hospital where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival. The victim lived in Gulistan-i-Jauhar.
A seven-month-old baby girl was knocked down by a pick-up truck in Nazimabad.
Police said that Rukhsana, aged seven months, was in her mother’s lap while she was crossing Nawab Siddiqui Ali Khan Road when they were knocked down by a speeding pick-up truck (KG-5518). As a result of the impact, the baby died on the spot. Her mother, Sharifan, was injured. She had been admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
