PESHAWAR, Oct 3: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) foiled on Thursday an attempt to smuggle narcotics.

A CID official told Dawn that, on receiving a credible information about the smuggling of narcotics from the tribal areas to the Punjab province, they erected barricades at the Ring Road near the Peshawar-Kohat intersection.

The official said that they signalled the suspected car, bearing registration number FDL-6062 coming from Bara, to stop but the driver sped it away. After a brief chase they managed to intercept the car and on search found 55 kg hashish from hidden cavities.

The alleged smuggler Abid, a resident of Shaheedabad- Pishtakhara was arrested.
