PESHAWAR, Oct 3: Traffic police have launched a campaign against the vehicles violating traffic rules and causing pollution here on Thursday.

Several mobile teams comprising officials of Environment Protection Agency (EPA), Regional Transport Authority (RTA) and Traffic Police launched the campaign on Thursday. All the vehicles plying on the city roads without valid documents and bearing faulty silencers, engines, etc., would be checked to streamline the transport system.

The campaign was launched at the various routes with a view to specially check the smoke-emitting vehicles and provide pollution-free atmosphere to the people.

The mobile teams have been patrolling the intra-city roads where the checking of documents and other requirements was in full swing.

In the wake of the on-going campaign, the transporters plying faulty vehicles would be issued one-week warning to remove their faults, an official said, adding that in case of their failure within the stipulated time action would taken against them. Those having plying the vehicles with wrong route permits would be find and their route permits would be taken into custody.

Likewise, the transporters would also face action for their failure to correct their faulty engines.

An official told Dawn that the vehicles impounded for faulty engines would be released after the issuance of proper certificate by the EPA and also showing of paid voucher of fine imposed on them.

The campaign would be carried out from time to time and the number of personnel and mobile teams would also be enhanced, the official said. According to him, they had made elaborated plan to plug all the entry and exit points of the city in order to make the drive a success.
