HYDERABAD: Singer’s widow seeks justice

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, Oct 3: The widow of renowned folk singer Faqeer Abdul Ghafoor (TI), Sharifan, has sought justice, while accusing some officials of the Sindh Culture department of corrupt practices and nepotism.

She was speaking at a press conference at the local press club on Thursday. She has been on hunger strike outside the press club for the last 10 days in protest against the officials’ attempt to eject her son from a government quarter.

She alleged that the Sindh Museum and Mehran Arts Council were being ruled by two men, who were brothers-in-law to each other, while the Bhit Shah rest house was being controlled by the nephew of another official of the Culture department.

Sharifan said that in recognition of her husband’s services, her son, Sarwar Ghafoor, who is also a folk artiste, was employed as an attendant in Sindh Museum and given a residential quarter in Mehran Arts Council but dubious methods were being used to eject his family from the quarter.
