HYDERABAD: Grenade defused, one held

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, Oct 3: Police defused a hand grenade in Qasimabad on Thursday while arresting Ayub Dareshak.

The police said Ayub was arrested after he had thrown a live high explosive (HE-36) hand grenade near his father’s residence.

Ayub Dareshak is the brother of Bahwal Dareshak, who was gunned down by police in 1997.

Police officials said Ayub had thrown the hand grenade after a dispute with his family over a property.

The hand grenade, weighing one-and-a-half pound, was successfully defused by blasting it with machine-gun fire in Phase-I of Qasimabad. The grenade had failed to blast despite removal of its pin.

Three TT pistols were also recovered from Ayub’s possession.

The grenade was exploded after it was covered with sandbags.

TPO Qasimabad Irshad Arain said that the accused was also involved in other criminal activities.

Ayub’s brother, Bahwal Dareshak, had killed his wife, mother-in-law and a cousin. He was shot dead by police.
