HYDERABAD, Oct 2: The chief of the Sindh National Front (SNF), Mumtaz Bhutto, on Wednesday complained about pre-poll rigging, saying that he was disappointed about the future of the next parliament.

Addressing a press conference at local circuit house, Mumtaz Bhutto predicted a complicated and confusing situation after the October 10 polls, adding that the new members of parliament would be unscrupulous and opportunists.

Replying to a question regarding the possibility of an MQM chief minister in Sindh, Mumtaz Bhutto did not rule out the possibility of “a Fiji-like situation” if a Muttahida nominee was elected as the chief minister of the province.

He said that the Sindhis would “naturally” react to a non- Sindhi chief minister. He, however, agreed that the Muttahida would have every right to go for the top slot if it acquired a majority in the provincial assembly.

Referring to the National Alliance, he said that although the alliance has ceased to exist but his party had no option but to contest polls on the symbol allocated to the alliance.

Terming the delimitation of the SNF-dominated areas poor, he said that re-demarcation of the constituencies had aggravated the situation.

He also criticised the setting up of 20 to 25 polling stations in Rato Dero taluka, saying that some of the polling stations were inaccessible to a majority of voters.

Two summoned: The district and sessions judge, Hyderabad, on Tuesday issued notices to Ghulam Mustafa Lund and Mubarak Lund, who are the complainants against the Sindh Democratic Alliance leader, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, and asked them to appear before the court on Oct 19 for recording their statements.

The district and sessions judge was appointed inquiry officer by Justice Amir Hani Muslim of the Sindh High Court on Sept 24 as the complainants had filed a constitutional petition through Advocate Ayaz Latif Palejo against Dr Arbab and some other police officials of Mithi including the Taluka police officer and the district police officer.

The High Court had directed the district judge to complete the inquiry and submit his findings by Oct 25.
