PCB refuses to sponsor blind team
LAHORE, Sept 30: Participation of the Pakistan blind cricket team in the Cricket World Cup for the blind to be held in India in December, has become doubtful as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refused to bear the travel expenses of the team.
The first World Cup was also organised by India in 1998. Pakistan was the runners-up of the first edition after losing the final to South Africa.
Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) chairman, Shaukat Ali, speaking to the media said that the PCB had provided free tickets to the PBCC for the last World Cup. But now the PCB had refused to sponsor the team, citing financial constraints after the Sept 11 attacks.
He said that he had written letters to various other organisations but no positive response had been received yet. He added that an alternative would be to ask for donations from the general public.
To a query, he said that his body was genuine as it had the affiliation of the World body since 1997.
