HYDERABAD, Sept 28: A division bench of the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench, here on Friday issued notices to the deputy attorney general to seek comments from the Corps Commander of Sindh and the GHQ regarding the detention of Imam, son of Omed Ali.
The order was passed on a constitutional petition, filed by the brother of the detenu, Ishaque.
The petitioner filed fresh affidavits of Abdul Hameed, son Mohammad Ameen, and Raheem, son of Kanbir.
Hameed stated that he himself and the detenu were picked up by the SHO of Kesar police station on the night of March 15-16.
He stated that he was picked up by the army personnel — Shahid Khan Pathan and Ghafoor Khan — after being let-off by the police.
Raheem, the cousin of the detenu, said that he had witnessed the arrest of detenu. He also named the above mentioned army personnel.
The main constitutional petition cited the DSP of Chhachhro, the SHO of Kesar police station and two officials of the Chore unit of the FIU ‘303’ as respondents.
The petitioner accused the policemen of trespassing, maltreatment of womenfolk and unauthorised search.
The DAG has been asked to submit his comments within 20 days.
INQUIRY: The Hyderabad circuit bench of the Sindh High Court the other day directed the DIG Operations to conduct an inquiry about the detention of a person, who according to his mother was being detained by the police.
The police denies having the person in question in custody.
The petitioner, Mst Asat had filed a constitutional petition before the court stating that her son, Ghulam Hussain, was picked- up on May 12 by ASI Suhail Khaskheli of investigation team police station City Mirpurkhas.
Consequently, she stated, he was handed over to the Satellite town police station and later to Kot Ghulam Mohammad police.
She said that since then she was trying to locate her son but to no avail.
Our Bureau reports: The Vice Chancellor, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, Prof Dr Jan Mohammad Memon, has appreciated the services of the female doctors, especially for the population of interior Sindh.
He was inaugurating the annual symposium of the gynaecology and obstetrics department of the university at a local hotel, the other day.
He stressed the need for research in the field of gynaecology and obstetrics and announced a grant of Rs500,000 for research.
The other speakers included, prof Rahat Qureshi from Agha Khan University, prof Khursheed Noorani from JPMC and prof Rubina Idress from Ziauddin hospital, Karachi.
They spoke on “Mellorhagia”, one of the common problems affecting the females from teen age to pre-menopausal age.
They pointed out that this problem affected the women physically, as well as in the realm of their social and economic activities.
The speakers also highlighted the modalities of the treatment.
A large number of the senior doctors including prof Ghulam Ali Memon, prof Mohammad Hussain Leghari, prof Nazeer Ahmed Memon, prof Nazeer Ashraf Leghari, prof Aftab Muneer and many others attended the symposium.
