PESHAWAR, Sept 27: Pakistan International Airlines is considering imposing certain restrictions on its cabin crew supporting beards to forestall any terror suspects from boarding the plane under the guise of aircraft crew, official sources informed Dawn on Friday.

The proposed restrictions on the crew’s get-up and its implications are being weighed by the airlines bosses, after they received directions that bearded crew should not be picked for PIA flights to America, the sources said, without specifying the source of the directions.

Quoting officials stationed at the PIA headquarters in Karachi as having conveyed the instructions to the Peshawar office, the sources said that the restrictions would be soon imposed.

“We have not received anything in writing, neither from the PIA nor any other authorities, but the management is weighing various options,” the sources said.

A high official at the PIA headquarters in Karachi told Dawn by telephone on Friday that no such proposal was under consideration.
