KARACHI: Water shortage in many areas

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 25: Several parts of the former districts East and South continued to face acute water shortage for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.

Water supply to Defence Housing Authority, Qayyumabad, Akhtar Colony, Manzoor Colony, Mehmoodabad, Landhi, Korangi and Malir was badly affected on Tuesday following a cable supplying electricity to the Pipri pumping station was damaged during some digging work carried out by the staff of Steel Mills in the vicinity of the pumping station.

Electricity at the pumping station went off at 7.30pm on Monday and was restored at 5am on Tuesday after the KESC staff repaired the damaged cable.

The KWSB sources said since the KESC had restored the power supply at the Pipri pumping station on priority, the water supply position of all the affected localities would be normalized by Thursday morning.

Acute water shortage also persisted in Clifton’s blocks 2, 4 and 5, Orangi, Baldia, North Karachi, Surjani and parts of Lyari.

Residents of the affected areas of Lyari complained that though water shortage problem had been lingering for the last a couple of weeks, but the concerned officials have not yet managed to restore normal supply.
