HYDERABAD, Sept 25: The first formal meeting of the District Public Safety Commission (DPSC) was held at the District Police Office (DPO), Hyderabad, on Tuesday.

According to some participants of the meeting, the DPO, A. D. Khwaja, informed the members about the issues confronting the district police saying that the police were working under extremely difficult circumstances.

He said that there was shortage of police force, armoured personnel carriers, and funds, and added that at a number of polling stations the police force required was not available.

He said that during police encounters, the police did not have the equipment which was essential for countering the outlaws.

The DPO said that the police did not get enough funds for petrol, repairing police mobile and stationary, and that the police mobiles were also insufficient in number.

The DPO distributed copies of the Police Order 2002 among the members and presented some of its salient features.

A member, Qazi Qadeer, informed the meeting that under the new police order the DPO had to submit his police plan for the new year by Aug 31 but it had not been submitted as yet.
