SAHIWAL, Sept 24: The State Bank of Pakistan has released a Rs89.329 million grant to the tehsil councils of 13 district governments for the payment of two months’ salaries of employees.
The break-up of the grant, for the fiscal year 2002-03, is: Khanewal Rs5.219 million; Faisalabad Rs44.257 million; Toba Tek Singh Rs1.954 million; Jhang Rs4.264 million; Bahawalpur Rs2.264 million; Sargodha Rs9.580 million; Mianwali Rs0.714 million; Sheikhupura Rs0.517 million; Kasur Rs4.847 million; Sahiwal Rs5.045 million and Pakpattan Rs2.174 million.
The grant has been transferred into the accounts of the district governments concerned.
ASSURANCE: A man ended his fast-unto-death after the assurance of a DSP on Monday night that his grievance would be redressed.
Afzal started his protest on Monday against the highhandedness of Noorshah police. A DSP approached Afzal and asked him to call on the district police officer on Sept 25 and present his grievances which would be redressed. Afzal ended the fast on the assurance.
SUICIDES: Three people committed suicide in Sahiwal during the last 24 hours.
Muhammad Anwar of Mauza Nama Sial had a quarrel with his parents over matrimonial issue and took poisonous pills. He died in a hospital on Monday.
Inayat Masih of Chak No 62/4-R took pesticides after a quarrel with his parents.
Sikandar had been without a job for the last couple of months. He took poisonous pills and died in a hospital. Nargis exchanged hot words with her husband Nasir Ahmed and allegedly took poisonous pills in Chak No 135/9-L.
Her condition was stated to be critical in a local hospital.
