Mobile phone recycling scheme

LONDON, Sept 24: A new scheme was launched on Tuesday to recycle the estimated 15 million mobile phones replaced each year in Britain.

Waste management company Shields Environmental said that under its Fonebak scheme the majority of phones would be shipped to other parts of the world, primarily developing countries, where they could be re-used.

The remainder would have their various parts recycled.

The company said its scheme had the backing of Britain’s five main mobile networks — O2, Orange, T-Mobile, Virgin Mobile, and Vodafone.—AFP
