BEIJING, Sept 22: Bangladesh fully supports Pakistan’s stand on the Kashmir issue and hopes that the Indian government would settle the problem in accordance with the United Nations resolutions.

This was stated by Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Bangladeshi Minister for Agriculture, who is currently on a visit to China, while talking to APP.

The minister said his government believed that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved keeping in view the wishes of the Kashmiri people through a process of dialogue.

He said the plebiscite was the genuine solution of the Kashmir problem.

Alamgir emphasized that both India and Pakistan should take necessary steps for the normalization of their relations. This, he added, was not only in the interest of Bangladesh, but also a fundamental requirement to ensure peace and security in South Asia.

About the Pakistan-Bangladesh relations, the minister said these took a positive turn after the recent visit of President Pervez Musharraf to Dhaka. The visit, he said, helped to remove certain irritants in normalization of their relations.

Now, he said, the two countries had started a new journey of friendship and peace for improving socio-economic life of their people.

The two sides, the minister said, had taken a number of projects specially in the agriculture sector for the promotion of economic ties.

He expressed hope that the leadership of the two countries would take all possible steps to this direction working together for achieving common goals in various sphere of life. —APP
