1,894 POs arrested

GUJRAT, Sept 22: The Mandi Bahauddin district police claim arresting 1,894 proclaimed offenders, including court and army fugitives, during the last six months.

SSP Salman Chaudhry told Dawn that police had arrested 356 court deserters, 26 army fugitives and 1,512 other POs.

Police also recovered 24 Kalashnikovs, 362 rifles, 593 guns, 26 carbines and 3,365 cartridges from their possession, he said.

During a special campaign against the drug pushers, police seized four kg heroin, 26 kg hashish, three kg opium, 1,704 opium tablets and 363 bottles of liquor, the SSP claimed.

Police also recovered a booty worth Rs4.5 million from the arrested outlaws, he said. — Correspondent
