Midweek races offer mediocre card

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Sept 17: A mediocre card of five-events awaits race-goers at the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse Wednesday. All events will be contested over the sprinting distance of six furlongs.

In all, 50 runners will take part in five races barring last- minute withdrawals.

In two events the fields are very tiny. The second race has only six acceptors while the third has seven runners, the fourth and fifth 11 and 12, respectively while the opener has the largest field with 14 runners. The lesser number of entries reflect poor quality of contests and racing in general.

In the fifth and feature event, a class VII division V handicap race there are a dozen runners. If nothing goes wrong chestnut gelding Aao Payar Se looks a better proposition to pick up the spoils. Bay mare Fiji, bay Khan Bahadur and another chestnut gelding Burrat Again are the other chance ones and can be rated as serious challengers.

Three-year-old filly Native Tune, who was beaten by Sun Of Gold on Wednesday last, should make amends this time in the third race among seven runners.

The first race will be held at 3.00pm.

Following are the fields and our selections:
