Seven Indians go home

COLOMBO, Sept 17: In an unusual move, India’s captain Saurav Ganguly, star batsman Sachin Tendulkar and five other players skipped practice Monday to return home to visit their families in the midst of the Champions Trophy tournament, cricket officials said.

It was the first time Indian players had taken such a break in the middle of a tournament, and they blamed a rigorous back-to-back tour schedule for keeping them away from home.

Ganguly, Tendulkar, Anil Kumble and Vangipurappu Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Ashish Nehra and Ajit Agarkar left for home Sunday and are to return to Sri Lanka Friday.—APP/AP
