Faiq stuns Saleh in Latif Masters


KARACHI, Sept 16: Mohammad Faiq Malik pulled off an upset victory over Saleh Mohammad in the 16th Latif Masters snooker championship at Karachi Club Monday.

Faiq got off to a stunning start when he won the three opening frames. Saleh staged a fight back to made it 3-3. But Faiq clinched the next frame to move ahead with the final score of 53-45, 64-58, 73-21, 21-68, 07-53, 49-62, 64-46.

Imran Shahzad, who in the morning session match smashed a break of 117 in the fourth frame in his 4-1 win over Vishan Gir, went down 4-2 against Arifullah.

Pakistan number one Khurram Agha, former world and Asian champion third seed Mohammad Yousuf, and fourth seed Naveen Perwani, won their matches.

Farhan Mirza and Minhas Malik failed to report for the event, while Mohammad Nazir did not show up for the afternoon match against Naveen Perwani, after losing his morning session game to Khurram Agha.

Arifullah (NWFP) w/o Minhas Malik (Sindh), Naveen Perwani (Sindh) beat Ahmer Shaikh (Sindh) 4-0, Khurram Agha (Sindh) beat Muhammad Nazir (Punjab) 4-0, Imran Shahzad (Punjab) beat Vishan Gir (SIndh) 4-1, Atiq Latif Bakhsh (Sindh) beat Amit Parwani (Sindh) 4-3, Mohammad Yousuf (Sindh) beat M. Faiq Malik (Punjab) 4-0, Saleh Muhammad (NWFP) w/o Fahad Asif (Punjab) Shakeel Bhatti (Sindh) w/o against Farhan Mirza (Punjab), Naveen Perwani w/o Mohammad Nazir, Khurram Agha beat Ahmer Shaikh 4-0, Mohammad Yousuf w/o Fahad Asif, Amit Parwani w/o Farhan Mirza, Arifullah beat Imran Shahzad 4-2, Faiq Malik beat Saleh Mohammad 4-2.—APP
