Tughlaq Cup for Blu’s Wendy

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Sept 15: Fancied bay Blu’s Wendy established himself as the top middle distance runner with a game victory in the Mohammad Tughlaq Cup run over seven furlongs at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Installed as 80 to 100 favourite after the last-minute withdrawal of Desert Dream, Blu’s Wendy beat front-running Devi Husn Ki by about two lengths. Better Case finished third, a distance away while Polo Gambler hit the frame among eleven runners.

Earlier, as the contestants reached the starting gates a section of the race-goers staged a demonstration pointing out that Desert Dream was not sent to perform on merit and his odds has increased from 60 to 100 to even-money. The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards got the colt examined by the veterinary officer and on his report withdrew Desert Dream from the race.

Chestnut colt Lucky Shot won the Captain Mohammad Sarwar Shaheed Cup run over the identical distance defeating  the  bay colt  The Conqueror by seven lengths. Blue-roan  colt Haseen Love finished third about three lengths back while the bay filly On On completed the board among a dozen runners.

In the Lance Naik Mohammad Mahfooz Cup, the fancied chestnut filly Value Of Life drove to a convincing four-length victory over another chestnut filly My Own Business. Puma Star and  Asif Love made up the board.
