7 Haripur candidates go out of contest

HARIPUR, Sept 14: Seven candidates withdrew their nomination papers in Haripur on Saturday, the last day set by the Election Commission for withdrawal of candidatures.

Initially, there were 27 contestants for the four provincial assembly seats, while 11 candidates filed nomination papers for the lone National Assembly seat in the district.

Out of these 11 candidates for the NA seat, papers of chief of Azmat-i-Islam Movement Zaheerul Islam Abbasi were rejected on the objection of Omar Ayub, while another candidate Khushi Mohammad Awan of PDP withdrew his papers on Saturday, leaving nine contestants in the field.

Out of 27 candidates for the provincial assembly seats, six withdrew their papers. These included Syed Mukhtiar Husain Shah from PF-49, Akhtar Nawaz Khan of Hattar (Independent), Pervez Akhtar Rana of PPP (Sherpao) from PF-50, Sabaz Ali Khan of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, Khanzada Khan advocate of PAT from PF-51, while from PF-52 Abdul Hameed Khan of Tehrik-i-Insaf withdrew his papers.

Those who were still in the field for NA-19 included Pir Sabir Shah (PML-N), Omar Ayub Khan (PML-QA), Sardar Abdul Rauf Khan (PPP), Ghulam Nabi Khan (MMA), Shehryar Khan (PML-J), Abdul Hameed Khan (PTI), Rafiq Khanzada (Independent), Syed Waqar Hussain Shah and Fayaz Khan.

Those contesting for PF-49 included Raja Faisal Zaman (Independent), Raja Shiraz Haider (PML-QA), Maulana Abdul Haq (MMA) and Sajjad Khan Bagra (Independent).

The candidates in the run for PF-50 included Yousuf Ayub Khan (PML-N), Qazi Mohammad Asad (PML-QA), Malik Abdul Jalil advocate (MMA), Raja Tahir Ayub (PPP Sherpao), Zulfiqar Ahmad Qureshi (PPP), Naveed Asghar (Hazara Qaumi Mahaz) and Arshad Ayub (PML-N).

For PF-51 the following candidates are in the run; Sardar Mushtaq Khan (PML-N), Akhtar Nawaz Khan (Independent), Wajid Hussain Shah (Independent), Shamsul Islam Anjum (MMA), Alam Zeb Khan (Independent). For PF-52, Pir Sabir Shah (PML-N), Faisal Zaman (PML-QA), Khushi Mohammad (PDP), Ghulam Nabi Khan (MMA) and Irfan Saeed Mughal (independent) are in the field.
