NEW YORK, Sept 13: Condoling with India over the death of dozens of people in militant attacks in the occupied Kashmir, US President George W.Bush has said that no civilized state could support such terrorist acts.
Bush conveyed his feelings on this issue to the Indian Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, at a 30-minute meeting in New York on Thursday, a senior White House official told journalists on Friday.
Asked if President Bush raised the Kashmir issue with Vajpayee, the official said: “The president looks forward to some resolution of the underlying problems in Kashmir. He did look forward to further consultation with the Pakistanis.”
The official said Bush and Vajpayee also reaffirmed their determination to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two democracies.
“Building on the meeting that they had in November of last year, the two leaders reviewed the progress in bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to continue the process of qualitative transforming the US-India relationship,” the official said.
“They noted in particular the positive developments in the area of counter-terrorism and defence cooperation. They emphasized the deepening of the high-level economic dialogue, and the strengthening of the new strategic framework of relations,” he added.
