NKSB upset Wapda


LAHORE, Sept 9: New Khan Sports Board (NKSB) upset Wapda 3-1 and breezed into the semifinals of the First All-Pakistan ranking badminton tournament at PHA Sports Complex Samanabad hall.

As NKSB made short work of a much experienced rival, national champion, PTCL thrashed Punjab 3-0 to line up for the semifinals.

Balochistan was the third team to progress ahead, carving out a hard 3-2 victory against spirited NWFP.

NKSB success owed to national champion, Wajid Ali, whose joining NKSB has given them a first major success in a national level tournament.

Following are the results:

NKSB vs Wapda (3-1): Imran Mohib (NK) bt Faisal (Wapda) 15-11,4-15,15-10, Wajid (NK) bt Zafar Tasneem (PTLC) 15-9,15-8, Aamir Islam and Naveed (Wapda) bt Wajid and Atiq (NK) 7-15, 15-10,15-12,Noman and Imran (NK) Zafar and Faisal (Wapda) 15-7,15-9.

PTCL vs Punjab (3-0): Omar Zeeshan bt Intikhab 15-7,15-1,Waqas Ahmad bt Khalid 15-6,15-5, Zeeshan/Rizwan bt Asif/Burank 15-0,15-5.

Balochistan vs NWFP (3-2): Mushtaq (NWFP) bt Mahboob (Balochistan) 15-5,15-3, Kashif (Balochistan) bt Salam Gul (NWFP) 5-15,15-7,15-1, Sabir/Mushtaq (NWFP) bt Orangzeb and Zeeshan 13-15, 15-10, 15-2, Mahboob/Kashif (Balochistan) Salam and Sattar (NWFP) 15-4,15-2,Orangzeb (Balochistan) bt Sabir (NWFP) 6-15,15-4,15-10.—AFP
