Rape victim’s family seeks justice
PESHAWAR, Sept 9: The grief-stricken father of a teenaged girl, who was raped by an influential person, has appealed to President Musharraf to bring the rapist to justice.
Speaking at a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, Zakir Rehman, a resident of Tehkal Payan, district Peshawar, alleged that his daughter, Nadia, was abducted and raped by Misal Khan, son of Aslam Khan, on Aug 23.
He said that after the terrible incident the girl was rushed to Khyber Teaching Hospital in a state of unconsciousness where it was confirmed that she had been unmercifully raped.
He said that Misal Khan, the rapist, who is a ward orderly at Hayatabad Medical Complex, is at present in jail, but his family was pressuring him for bringing about a rapprochement with the culprit.
The 55-year-old, Zakir, also a ward orderly at Police Hospital, became tearful, and said he was poor and helpless, and had no one but God on his side.
He disclosed that the rapist was first cousin of Town-111 Nazim Yasin Khan Khalil.
He said: “My wife and my two sons are absolutely devastated and are being constantly harassed for a pardon deal. But, we are determined to have the rapist hanged.”
Flanked by representatives of NGOs, Zakir said that the day after the gruesome incident, he was kidnapped by the rapist’s brothers, Wasil Khan and Bacha Gul, and taken to their house where he was badly beaten up to force him into a compromise solution.
An FIR has been lodged against both the two men, but they have managed to get a bail before arrest.
Zakir has also appealed to the supreme court for suo moto action against the accused.
