PPP wants EC to take notice of threats

MIRPURKHAS, Sept 9: The Pakistan People’s Party has called upon the Chief Election Commissioner to take notice of the threats being given to the EC officials and returning officers by the ‘king’s party’ candidates in Sindh.

Speaking at different corner meetings in Umarkot, Mirpurkhas and parts of Tharparker, former federal minister and member of the party’s CEC, Nawab Mohammad Yousuf Talpur said at some places even the EC officials had been threatened by the candidates and the intimidation of PPP supporters had been continuing.

He said ‘king’s party’ leaders were claiming that they had been given assurance by the government of their victory through full utilization of government machinery, says a press release on Monday.

It was astonishing that despite clear orders of the CEC the transfers and postings of government officials were being carried out in Sindh which showed that the military government had drawn out plans to hijack the election results, however, he said, the PPP would return as a majority party in all provinces if the elections were held free, fair and transparent.
