Dir Nazim passes away

TIMERGARA, Sept 4: Nazim of Lower Dir district and a senior parliamentarian, Dr Mohammad Yaqoob Khan, 75, died of heart attack here on Tuesday night.

He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard, Shahzadi on Wednesday. His funeral prayer was attended by NWFP governor, Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, provincial ministers, politicians and people from all walks of life.

Dr Mohammad Yaqoob, who was associated with Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), elected member of the provincial assembly for four times. He remained member of the central shoora and provincial chief of Jamaat-i-Islami.

He started his political career in early 1960s and was elected provincial assembly member in 1972. He was elected the provincial assembly member in 1985’s non-party elections and reelected in 1988 and 1990 general elections. Dr Yaqoob was elected Nazim-i- Alla Lower Dir district in August 2001.
