MULTAN, Sept 3: Counsels for the convicts in the Meerwala gang-rape case on Tuesday filed appeals with the Multan bench of the Lahore High Court against the sentence.

Four rapists and two jurors were sentenced to death by the Dera Ghazi Khan anti-terrorism court on Saturday last.

The convicts were Abdul Khaliq, his brother Allah Ditta, Fayyaz Husain (rapists), Ghulam Fareed (Juror-turned-rapist), Faiz Muhammad (chief juror) and Ramzan Pachaar (arbitrator). The counsel for the convicts, Malik Muhammad Saleem, filed separate appeals for the rapists and the two jurors.

The appeals claim that the order of the ATC judge was not maintainable according to the law and facts of the case, therefore the judgment be set aside and appeals be admitted for hearing.
