LAHORE, Sept 3: Leaders of the PML-N and the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal met here on Tuesday to resolve their differences over some electoral adjustments.
They agreed to form a committee comprising Khwaja Saad Rafiq and Pervez Malik of the PML(N), Mian Maqsood Ahmad and Azhar Iqbal of the Jamaat-i-Islami, Qari Zawwar Bahadur of the JUP and Rashid Ludhianvi of the JUI to hold further negotiations on the issue.
The committee was in session till late Tuesday night to solve differences over various National Assembly seats in Multan, Rawalpindi, Sialkot and Faisalabad.
According to sources, the PML(N) has agreed not to field its candidates against MMA nominees in three NA and seven Punjab Assembly seats from Lahore.
Those who are contesting from these constituencies are Hafiz Salman Butt, Farid Piracha and Liaquat Baloch on NA seats, and Mian Maqsood Ahmad, Syed Ehsanullah Waqas, Chaudhry Shaukat, Waqar Nadeem Warraich, Qari Zawwar, Jahangir Bara and Haji Abdur Razaq on PA seats.
Meanwhile, the Jamaat-i-Islami has convened a workers’ convention of NA-121 at Ulema Academy for tomorrow (Sept 4) to plan election strategy for the constituency.
