LAHORE, Sept 3: Dacoits in their 15 strikes on Tuesday shot dead a youngster on resistance and made off with over Rs1.2 million in cash, gold ornaments, valuables and vehicles in different parts of the city.
Eight gun-toting men shot dead a youngster on resistance at the Evergreen Housing Society in Sattukatla.
Deputy Director Protocol Ghazala Nisar of the information department told Dawnthe gangsters broke into her house when she along with her son was asleep.
She said the intruders broke open the door of the bedroom. She said she and her son took shelter in the bathroom. They also broke open the door of the washroom and held them up at gunpoint.
She said the intruders collected cash, gold jewellery and valuables worth Rs400,000 and disconnected a telephone. She said the gangsters spent some three hours in the house, adding she managed to call police from another telephone.
“On seeing the police, she said, the gangsters went upstairs and jumped into an neighbouring house.”
Ghazala said house owner Asghar’s two sons —- Ishtiaq and Altaf —- woke up and tried to catch the dacoits. The miscreants, however, opened fire, causing serious injuries to Altaf, 20, and escaped, she said. Altaf died later,
According to her, the police just kept on firing shots in the air and made no serious effort to nab the dacoits.
On Ishtiaq’s complaint, a case was registered against the dacoits with no arrest.
Saleem and his wife were on their way home in Garden Town when two gunmen deprived them of cash and gold ornaments worth Rs100,000.
Four dacoits stormed into the house of Tariq Mahmood in Qila Gujjar Singh and made off with cash, gold jewellery and valuables worth Rs250,000.
Begum Shabnam Imtiaz told police she and her family members were asleep in her house in Millat Park when three armed men burst into the house and held up the inmates. She said the intruders collected cash, valuables and gold ornaments worth Rs350,000 and escaped.
In the same locality, Mohsin was on his way home when two armed men held him up and drove away with his motorcycle (LRE-5829).
Ashraf Saeed was going to his shop in the Factory Area when two gun-toting men robbed him of Rs65,000.
Two armed men stormed into the house of Kamran in Shalamar but escaped when the inmates raised an alarm.
One of them, Ejaz, was caught by the residents and was handed over to the police.
Salesman Mubin Akbar was going to his office in Gulshan Ravi when two robbers snatched Rs50,000 from him.
Ejaz was intercepted by two gunmen in Race Course who robbed him of Rs30,000.
Two cars and four motorcycles were either snatched or stolen from different parts of the city.
MURDER: A man was shot dead allegedly by his neighbour over a money dispute at Al-Faisal Town in North Cantonment on Tuesday.
Ghulam Rasool told police his son Zahid had a monetary dispute with a neighbour, Murtaza. He alleged Murtaza visited his son Tuesday and opened fire on him after an exchange of harsh words and escaped.
Zahid sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he died.
The body was sent to the city mortuary for autopsy. A case was registered with no arrest.
ACCIDENT: Three people were killed in accidents in different parts of the city on Tuesday.
Syed Husain, 50, was crossing the Jail Road opposite to the Services Hospital for buying medicines for a patient when a motorcycle hit him.
He sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital where he died. The motorcyclist, Raheel, was caught by passersby and was handed over to the police.
The body was returned to the family without autopsy. A case was registered against the accused.
Akbar, 45, was knocked down by a bus in Manga Mandi. He died on the spot.
BODY FOUND: The body of a man, around 65, unidentified so far, was found on the road in Kot Lakhpat. It was sent to the city mortuary for autopsy.
