KARACHI, Aug 31: The City District Government, Karachi, with the assistance of the Sindh government, is working on a resettlement project spread over 100 acres of land. About four to five thousand residential plots would be developed under this project which has been named as “Naya Ghar Resettlement Project.”

The project costing about Rs.45.86 million, is expected to be completed by April 2003. The work on providing water supply and drainage facilities in this scheme is also going on simultaneously. This was stated in a high-level meeting held here Saturday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary, Sindh K. B. Rind. The meeting was convened to review the progress of development projects under way in Karachi.

City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, Additional Chief Secretary P&D Shahzado Shaikh, Secretary Labour Raja Muhammad Abbas, DCO Karachi, MD, Karachi Water & Sewerage Board, DG, Karachi Development Authority, Malir Development Authority, EDO Revenue and other officials attended the meeting.

The meeting was informed that work is underway on FTC Flyover, while the Shahrah-i-Quaideen Flyover would be completed at a cost of Rs.194.00 million by September 2004.

Reviewing Lyari Expressway project, it was informed that the area in ten kilometre length has been cleared and 594 affected families have been provided with residential plots in Hawkesbay scheme along with Rs50,000 per family. The work on providing water supply and drainage facilities and construction of roads is also going on.

As regards the implementation of MDA Housing scheme, a committee headed by Secretary Housing was constituted. Its members included DCO Karachi and DG MDA.

The Chief Secretary appreciated the involvement of City Government in connection with the implementation of Karachi’s mega projects and hoped that these will be completed in time.—PPI/APP
