TIMERGARA, Aug 31: No extra taxes, except the fixed by the TMA Timergara and Chitral, would be charged from the vehicles plying on the roads in Dir and Chitral and those found charging dual or “ghunda” tax would be taken to task.

This was decided during a meeting held between the District Nazim Dir Lower, Dr Mohammad Yaqub Khan and his Chitrali counterpart, Shehzada Mohiuddin Khan who called on him here, the other day.

The District Nazim Chitral complained that the vehicles bound for Chitral from Peshawar were being charged extra taxes at various points in Dargai, Batkhela and Timergara, which was totally unjustified.

He demanded immediate halt to such unlawful tax collection and requested the District Nazim Dir Lower to take action against the elements involved in such practice.

Taking notice of the complaint, the District Nazim Dir Lower immediately called the concerned district as well as the transport authorities on the spot and directed them to take prompt remedial measures for tackling the situation and resolving the problem.

However, it was revealed on the occasion by a member, representing the local transport body, that the vehicles bound for down districts were also being charged extra taxes in Chitral and the district government there was silent and taking no action against them.

On knowing this, Dr Mohammad Yaqub Khan asked District Nazim Chitral to take action against the elements involved in collecting illegal and unlawful taxes there and assured that no extra tax would be levied or taken from the Chitral bound vehicles here in Dir Lower.—APP
