KARACHI, Aug 30: There are no plans to reopen the US visa office in Karachi in the near future.

An official said that the US government does not want to put either Pakistani visa applicants or American officials, who process the visa formalities, as well as Pakistani employees, at risk.

In the near future, unless there is a major change in the security situation in Karachi, the visa office would not be opened, he told journalists.

Another US official said that “we are not going to stay in this building for ever. We are looking for an appropriate site for the new consulate which will have space for a visa section.”

He stated that if the record of recent terrorist incidents against westerners and Americans is looked at, there were more Pakistani citizens injured and killed.—APP
