Pemra warns cable operators

ISLAMABAD, Aug 28: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has directed cable TV operators to immediately stop showing banned channels, vulgar films, pornographic materials and violence related programmes.

According to Pemra officials, the operators have been warned earlier to take due care of the social, religious, cultural and traditional values of the Pakistani society. Although most of the cable operators are law abiding but some mischievous elements among them are indulging in activities which are against the relevant Pemra laws and the established social norms of decency.

The Pemra authorities have asked the local governments to take immediate remedial measures to bring to net the aberrant cable operators, who are violating the code of conduct and relevant Pemra Rules and Regulations through a comprehensively chalked-out and well-planned mechanism.— APP
