KARACHI: Promotion rules to be evolved for specialist doctors
KARACHI, Aug 28: Sindh health minister Ehsan Ahmad on Wednesday directed the health officials to chalk out a strategy for promotion of doctors of specialist cadres up to grade 20.
In addition, he said, promotion procedures of specialists transferred from taluka hospitals to districts be evolved in a manner to facilitate their promotion from grade 18 to 20.
He issued these orders during a briefing to him by a committee, presided over by director general health Dr Fateh Mohammad Khan, constituted to review promotion procedure of senior specialist doctors.
The minister ordered creation of equal posts at all the taluka and district hospitals in accordance with required number of grades and vacancies.
He also ordered upgrading of the civil hospitals, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar and Khaipur, besides the Sindh government hospital, Orangi Town (Qatar Hospital), where only senior doctors of specialist cadres would be posted.
“Moreover specialist doctors vacancies be created for appointment at pathology and radiology departments of all teaching hospitals and for TB hospitals, Sir C.J Institute of Psychiatry and skin hospitals of Karachi,” he added.
He hoped that after according approval to these suggestions by Sindh governor the old demand of promotion of specialist cadre doctors would be resolved amicably and like general cadres, the specialist doctors would be promoted up to the rank of grade 20. However to accomplish this objective they would have to serve at taluka and district hospitals, he added.
The meeting was attended among others by secretary health Khalid Latif Chaudhry, additional secretary development Dr Sri Chand, additional secretary technical Dr Daudpota, and other high officials.—PPI
