Poor Niger seeks funds for relaunch


NIAMEY, Aug 27: Niger, one of the world’s poorest countries, is asking families to stump up a few pennies each to get its soccer team back on the road after two years in the wilderness.

A financial crisis at the West African country’s soccer federation has halted league and international fixtures for two years, but the government wants to enlist popular support to send a side to play Ethiopia in September.
