PTV to show hockey ties

KARACHI, Aug 25: Fans will finally be able to watch the recording of Pakistan’s 7-1 humiliation last month by minnows New Zealand at Commonwealth Games hockey contest to be telecast by Pakistan Television (PTV) from Tuesday.

Apart from the Pakistan-New Zealand game, the state-run television will also show the remaining matches of the Games’ hockey competition at PTV-1 between 12.00pm and 4.00pm, daily.

The PTV will also telecast the recording of the final featherweight fight between gold medallist Haider Ali and India’s Som Bahadur Pun, and weightlifting competitions in which Pakistan’s Mohammad Irfan clinched three silver medals.

The recorded telecast of the Games will be aired by the PTV in collaboration with Asian Broadcasting Union (ABU).

PTV has also arranged live coverage of Pakistan’s matches, playoffs and the final of the 24th Champions Trophy hockey tournament starting from Aug 31 in Cologne, Germany.

Pakistan face world champions Germany on Aug 31 in the opener at 4.15pm Pakistan Standard Time, South Korea on Sept 1 at 6.30pm, The Netherlands on Sept 3 at 9.45pm.

The explosive tie against the arch-rivals India will be on Sept 4 at 9.45pm, to be followed by Pakistan’s last league match on Sept 6 against Australia at 5.15pm.

The playoff matches for fifth/sixth and third/fourth positions will be played on Sept 8 at 1.30pm and 4.00pm respectively while the gold medal match will start at 7.00pm.

Meanwhile, PTV is also making arrangements to televise matches of the triangular one-day cricket series live, starting in Nairobi from Thursday. Pakistan, Australia and Kenya are taking part in the tournament.
