Radio cab service soon

Published August 26, 2002

LAHORE, Aug 25: District Nazim Mian Amer has said radio cab service will be launched in the provincial metropolis shortly to provide transport facilities to the people at their doorstep.

Talking to Ravi Town Union Council Nazimeen and councillors at the District Nazim House here on Sunday, Mian Amer said only financially sound companies and individuals owning at least 10 cars would be given radio cab licences to ensure that the new service did not meet the fate of the yellow cab scheme. People would be able to call the cabs at their doorstep by making a telephone call after the launching of the service.

He said signing of the MoU for the establishment of the light rail transit system had paved the way for the provision of modern transportation facilities to Lahorites. He said previously the LRT system was proposed to be built after procuring a $600 million foreign loan. The present government had signed the MoU for establishing the system at a cost of $400 million on BOT basis without burdening the people with loan. —Reporter
