Karachiite drowns in Keenjhar
THATTA, Aug 25: A picnicker, Syed Amjad Ali, 22, resident of sector 11-F, New Karachi, was drowned in Keenjhar Lake here on Sunday.
Eye witnesses said Ali was trapped into a whirling ditch.
His body was recovered after two hours by divers.
POWER BREAKDOWN: The unscheduled power breakdown in various towns of Thatta district since the last fortnight has made the public life miserable.
Hesco authorities, on being complained, said copper wires mounted on poll lines, insulators and other such devices had worn out and were overloading with every passing day.
The ever-growing power load on the only oil circuit breaker at Sujawal Grid Station has proved to be a permanent problem for the operational staff.
A grid station, which had been built ill-planned to appease some tribal chiefs and politicians in coastal belts, had proved ineffective and its machinery was decaying.
Book launched: The launching ceremony of Ishtiaq Ansari’s book “Dharti Mata” (motherland) was widely attended by in the courtyard of Maha Dev Temple on the bank of Keenjhar Lake, on Saturday night.
The Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo was the chief guest and intellectuals and writers — Abdul Wahid Areesar, Ali Baba, Naseer Mirza, Mohammad Ali Manjhi, Valiram Valabh and others — offered comments on literary services of the writer.
Palijo said Ansari, the author of two books — Sindh Ja Kot Aeen Kila (The forts of Sindh), his prize winner book, and Khema Khahorean Ja (The tents of untiring) — had rendered valuable literary services.
The event was followed by music show.
The folk singers, Shafi Mohammad, Allah Dino Khaskheli and Mehboob Khaskheli and others, enthralled audience at the legendary lake.
