KARACHI: Constitutional amendments praised

KARACHI, Aug 23: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has welcomed the constitutional package given by President General Pervez Musharraf.

In a statement on Friday, the governor said that the constitutional package will have far reaching effects for the establishment of real democracy in the country.

He pointed out that earlier, the government had presented the package to elicit public opinion when it was discussed on television, in newspapers and at other fora.

The governor observed that the proposals on which there was no agreement had been dropped, while useful proposals were included in the package.

Soomro said that the constitutional package was finalized by the president in the final opinion of the people, which is a welcome step, adding that the package will consolidate democratic institutions.—APP
