LAHORE, Aug 21: Four-year-old colt Puma Star landed the feature event during the mid-week Lahore Gymkhana races run over 800 metres at the Race Course Wednesday.
Puma Star outpaced his seven rivals with joint favourite bay mare Dillagi six lengths adrift in second place. Bay horse Royal Man and the gelding Decent Fellow completed the frame.
Ridden by jockey Shahid Rehman Puma Star is trained by Sohail Aziz. He clocked 49 3/5 seconds over the sprinting distance of 800 metres.
A race earlier the bay filly My Fantasy registered her maiden victory in the fourth race. She beat second favourite Blue Champion by two lengths. Riding boy Iqbal Khan who rode favourite My Fantasy, came rushing from behind to win from the front running Blue Champion.
In the third race 70 to 100 Science Fiction led the field from start-to-finish to win from Golden Voice by a length. Jockey Javed Iqbal rode the winner trained by Raja Tehmasab Khan.
Shortly before the start of this race, the chestnut filly Lado Rani while being boxed in the starting gates bolted away and ran round the course. The stewards withdrew her from the race.
In the same event another filly Fantastic Cute was found unfit at the starting gates and was examined by the vet, who recommended her withdrawal. This left only seven contestants in the field.
The second event turned out a hard fought struggle between 20 to 100 favourite bay mare Fiji and the bay filly Diva in which the latter emerged winner by half-a-length. Lex Lugar and Silver Heart completed the board.
The opener was claimed by bay gelding Jonty Road, who gained an easy five lengths success over Great Banquet. Pappa Jan and Love Land finished third and fourth, respectively.
The eleven-year-old gelding Subzero repeated his last week success by winning the sixth and last race of the day and make it two in-a-row.
He defeated Easy To Listen, who was not properly ridden by jockey Javed Iqbal.
Lahore Race Club stewards taking into account that the filly has run after a long absence from the track gave benefit of doubt to Javed and fined him Rs2,000 for erratic handling.
All races were contested over 800 metres.
