Symonds replaces injured Lehmann

MELBOURNE, Aug 19: Andrew Symonds will replace Darren Lehmann in Australia’s cricket squad for the triangular limited overs series in Kenya starting later this month, selectors said Monday.

Lehmann suffered a broken little finger on his left hand while playing in a match for England county team Yorkshire and underwent a fitness test in Melbourne on Sunday.

He will undergo another fitness test in two weeks, chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns said in a statement.

Lehmann, 32, was named as part of a 14-man squad to be captained by Ricky Ponting for the series against Pakistan and Kenya.

While Symonds will go to Kenya he will not be part of Australia’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka next month, and will instead join the Australia ‘A’ squad for its series against South Africa ‘A’ in South Africa, Hohns said.
