MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 19: A woman and her minor daughter were slaughtered in a village on Sunday night, police said on Monday.

The incident occurred in a house in Dubri Lullor village in the jurisdiction of Chikar police station, when six of the 10 members of the family were out to attend a wedding ceremony.

When the relatives returned after midnight, they found Zahida, 26, wife of Waheed Ahmed, and her 5-year-old daughter, Samia, lying in a pool of blood in their room with their throats slit with some sharp tool. Police were informed of the incident at 6am, an official told Dawn by telephone.

The official said that when the incident occurred, two members of the family were sleeping in the adjacent room.

He said the slain woman’s husband worked as a labourer in Karachi. The police had arrested four suspects, belonging to the victims’ family, and investigations were under way, he said.
