TIMERGARA, Aug 13: The Nazim of Lower Dir district, Dr Mohammad Yaqub Khan, said on Monday that the construction of small hydel power stations in lower Dir would enable the district to generate at least Rs400 million revenue.
Talking to reporters, the Nazim said that hydel power stations would facilitate the electricity supply to all parts of the district at low price.
He said the district government would evolve a transparent system by involving the private sector in the establishment of power houses. He suggested that the hydel power stations could be set up on the river Panjkora at places like Tarai, Timer and Koto Odigram.
Referring to the presence of non-customs paid vehicles in the Malakand division, Dr Yaqub said the provincial government had rejected the summary put up by the district government of Swat in this regard on the plea that the matter belonged to the Central Bureau of Revenue.
He said the district government was making efforts to impose a nominal tax on such vehicles and grant them exemption if the owners were ready to register these vehicles.
He said two television boosters would soon be installed at Laram and Islamdarra in the district.
