PESHAWAR: Officials asked to ensure quality of work

PESHAWAR, Aug 13: The NWFP governor has said that about 20 mega-projects are in progress aimed at uplifting and beautifying the city, and directed the executing agencies to ensure quality of work as well as proper utilization of resources.
Presiding over a meeting on Monday, Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah said there should be no compromise on the removal of encroachments, but added that the process for payment of compensation should be transparent.
He said that widening of the G.T. Road and the Jamrud Road was the target, adding that efforts must be made to launch work on all the stages of the project simultaneously. The governor directed the authorities to remove curves on the Jamrud Road. He expressed concern over progress of work on the reconstruction of Warsak Road and told the officials to remove without delay all the hurdles in this regard.
The governor approved the construction of an overhead bridge near the Michni Crossing to facilitate the students of a nearby school.
He was informed that Rs40 million would be provided annually for maintenance of roads in the city. He also learnt that the construction of Gorgathri Park, where a public library would also be set up, was in full swing.
Referring to the construction of the Rehman Baba Square, the governor said that Pesco authorities should expedite the work on the shifting of their infrastructure from the site. He inquired about the initiatives being taken for the construction of the bus terminal and allowed the district government to carry out the feasibility study for the project.
The governor was informed about the land acquisition process for a compost plant and added that with its completion physical work on the project would be taken in hand.
SECURITY MEASURES: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain on Monday ordered foolproof arrangements for the security and safety of the places of minorities as well as other sensitive points in the province. He told the authorities to apply all the resources, particularly the latest electronic devices, to ensure security.
This he said while presiding over a meeting on law and order.
