Independence Day functions cancelled

By Our Correspondent

TOBA TEK SINGH, Aug 12: The independence day functions in Christian missionary educational institutions in the district have been cancelled.

This was announced here on Monday by Christian perish priest Father Bonnie Mendes.

He said the decision was taken owing to the recent terrorist incidents in Murree and Taxila.

Special prayer services would however be held in churches on the independence day, he said.

CASES: Rajana police on Monday registered cases against farmers of two Chaks 337-GB (Dholan) and 289-GB for creating breaches in two minor canals.

The SDO of Bhaghat irrigation department had sent a written complaint against the farmers. However, the complainant did not mention the names in the FIR.

When contacted, a police official said that no arrest had so far been made.

DEMANDED: Former MNA and PML(N) central leader Hamza has asked the Punjab IGP not to pressurise former parliamentarians to join PML(QA).

In a press release issued here on Monday, he said the police should rather check the rising incidents of dacoity, theft, robbery and cattle lifting in the district than to indulge itself in dirty politics.
