GUJRANWALA, Aug 8: Four people, including an elderly woman, were killed while two dozen others injured in separate road accidents in and around the district on Thursday.
Reports said one Muhammad Sultan of Sheikhupura Road was killed and two dozen others injured when Sheikhupura-bound bus dashed against a stationary tractor-trolley near Ghumanwala village.
Tetley police have registered a case against tractor-trolley driver Shaukat Ali and bus driver Muhammad Yousaf.
In Rahwali, one Sughran bibi was crossing the GT Road when a rashly-driven coaster hit her. She was taken to the Civil Hospital where she died.
Cantonment police have arrested coaster driver Muhammad Younis.
Muhammad Ibrahim of Khokharki locality was knocked down by a wagon on the Sialkot Road. He died on the spot.
Muhammad Arshad of Shaheenabad was run over by a speeding pick-up on the GT Road. He died at the Civil Hospital.
RECRUITMENT: The district police authorities on Thursday started recruiting police constables.
Reports said around 4,500 candidates, including bachelors and masters degree holders, had applied against 117 seats of constables.
SSP Saud Aziz told newsmen that the constables would be recruited on merit. He said he would supervise the process of recruitment at the Jinnah Stadium.
The process would be completed on Aug 13, the SSP said.
INJURED: Five passers-by, including a minor boy, were injured in an exchange of fire between two groups in Talwandi village, on Thursday.
Ehsanullah and Irshad had a dispute. On Thursday, they quarrelled with each other and later exchanged firing. Consequently, Irshad and five passers-by, Kashif, 9, Muhammad Rashid, Yousaf, Muhammad Ali and Abdullah, were injured.
They were hospitalized.
