NRB rectifies typographical error

Published August 9, 2002

ISLAMABAD, Aug 8: The National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB) on Thursday corrected the electronic version of the Political Parties Order, 2002.

The NRB changed the word “deformation” into “formation” in the fourth para of the preamble to the Chief Executive Order No 18 of 2002, available on its website since June 28.

The paragraph, which read, “Whereas it is expedient to provide for deformation and regulation of political parties,” was changed into “Whereas it is expedient to provide for the formation and regulation of political parties” on NRB’s website on Thursday afternoon. “It was a typographical error in the electronic version which has now been corrected,” said Brig Saleem of NRB when contacted.

Leaders of the political parties, making preparations to challenge the PPO in the SC, said the “Freudian Slip” in the text of the Order spoke volumes about the intention of the lawmakers in the NRB to destroy the structure of the political system.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the ministry of law, justice and human rights, in a clarification to the report titled “Serious error found in Political Parties Order” published in Dawn on Thursday, said the report was an attempt to sabotage the efforts of the government towards the stability of the country and reformation of the political system.

The spokesman said the fourth para of the preamble is written in the Gazette of Pakistan, extraordinary, June 28, 2002 as under:

“And whereas it is expedient to provide for the formation and regulation of Political Parties...”

The spokesman said that a five-column news item published in the daily, intentionally and deliberately flashed the report regarding political parties etc wherein the word “deformation” instead of “formation” has been published.
