HYDERABAD, Aug 8: A large number of the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Students’ Federation activists staged a hunger strike outside the local press club on Thursday against the inordinate increase in the fees of colleges and the boards of intermediate and secondary education.

Talking to newsmen, STPSF chief Qadir Channa said that the increase in fees was aimed at depriving the poor students of their right to education.

He said if the increase in fees was not withdrawn, the colleges of Sindh would be deprived of students.

He said that the increase in fees was unacceptable and the STPSF would continue the struggle to its logical conclusion.

He appealed to the student community, teachers’ organizations, the district Nazimeen, intellectuals and the people to raise their voice against the anti-education policy.

He also severely criticised the proposed privatization of educational institutions.

Meanwhile, the students of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, belonging to the STPSF, observed black day at the campus in Jamshoro on Thursday against the increase in fees and supply of substandard food at the central canteen of the university.

The STPSF leaders, Shahnawaz, Imdad Buhar, Aziz Khawaja and others warned that if the increase in fees was not withdrawn and the quality of food at the canteen was not improved, the federation would enlarge the scope of its protest.
